Queenslanders with disability will benefit from improved access to support and services announced today.

The Turnbull Government will provide more than $233 million for people with disability and children with developmental delay and disability in Queensland as part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) rollout.

Carers Queensland, APM, and Mission Australia will be funded to provide Local Area Coordination (LAC) services to people with disability aged seven and above.

Local Area Coordinators (LACs) assist with information and referral to supports in the community, as well as supporting participants to develop, implement and review their NDIS plans.

The Benevolent Society, BUSHKids, and Mission Australia will support children with developmental delay and disability up to six years of age. They will provide initial supports like speech and occupational therapy, information about local community and mainstream services, support for families and carers, and will assist those children who may need longer term supports to access the NDIS.

The NDIS is expected to support more than 91,200 people in Queensland, and about 460,000 people nationwide at full scheme.

The scheme is also expected to boost the Queensland economy by $2.5 billion, and create up to 35,950 jobs in disability services in the state.

The NDIS will be available throughout Queensland from January 2019. For more information, visit www.ndis.gov.au.
