Westpac Awards celebrate community leadership
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Services Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells today acknowledged the important contribution of corporate Australia in building vibrant communities.
Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells was representing Minister for Social Services Kevin Andrews at the Westpac Community Leaders Awards in Sydney.
“Collaboration between business and civil society is crucial to the wellbeing of Australian society. Responding to individual and community needs and building a better society is always more successful when Government and business work together,” she said.
“The Federal Government can introduce reforms and deliver services but we also recognise that local communities are best placed to understand and address the challenges they face.”
The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership is advising Government on practical strategies to promote philanthropic giving, volunteering and community investment in Australia.
The Partnership is chaired by the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott and the Minister for Social Services, Kevin Andrews, is Deputy Chair.
“Philanthropic endeavours strengthen and empower civil society and encourage a greater sense of purpose and belonging across communities,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.
“A community that gives time and financial resources has stronger social cohesion and more social capital.
“The Westpac Community Leaders Awards, and in particular the Gala Dinner, is an important opportunity to recognise the significant role community leaders and not-for-profit organisations play in strengthening civil society.
“My best wishes go to all the finalists in these awards and I would especially like to congratulate the winners in all six categories,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.
