Opening of 2014 Aged Care Approvals Round

Opening of 2014 Aged Care Approvals Round

Applications for the next Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR) will open from 24 May 2014.

9,330 residential aged care places and 6,653 home care places are available for allocation through the 2014 ACAR.

This Round marks an important step forward in the Government’s reform agenda of the aged care sector.

These extra residential aged care places and home care places will help further meet the growing demand for aged care.

The Government recognises that many older Australians wish to remain in their home for as long as possible.

Accordingly, this round continues to expand the Home Care Packages Programme, which provides individually tailored packages of home care services to help older Australians remain independent.

Over the next four years, we will grow the total number of Home Care Packages across Australia from about 61,000 packages to around 100,000 packages.

To encourage greater investment in areas of high need, up to $103 million in capital grants under the Rural, Regional and Other Special Needs Building Fund will be offered as part of the 2014 ACAR.

The ACAR is the major funding round in the aged care industry and provides new Australian Government-funded aged care places to service providers through a competitive assessment process.

The invitation to apply for places and capital funding will be announced in newspapers and on the Department of Social Services website (www.dss.gov.au) from 24 May 2014.
