$1 Million Boost for Camp Quality Education Programme

Minister for Social Services Kevin Andrews has announced $1 million in funding to support the Camp Quality Primary School Education Programme.

Speaking at the launch of Camp Quality’s Puppet Showcase, Mr Andrews said the Australian Government was pleased to contribute to programmes supporting young children living with cancer and their families.

“Around 10,000 children are living with cancer in Australia today and many more have a parent with cancer,” Mr Andrews said.

“The Australian Government is funding the development of a new phase of Camp Quality’s successful Primary School Education Programme, which continues to teach children about cancer.

“The Programme helps children and teachers learn how to create a supportive school community for kids living with cancer and their families.

“It explains the challenges of living with cancer, dispels myths and gives them practical strategies for supporting a friend or family member with cancer.”

Mr Andrews also called on businesses and individual donors to support the important work of Camp Quality.

“Together, we can ensure organisations like Camp Quality will continue to support people in need. By joining together, government, community organisations, corporations and philanthropists and volunteers can make a huge difference to the lives of society’s most vulnerable people.”

The Australian Government offers a range of programmes and services to support the community. Grants are also available to support projects, activities and events that respond to local community needs and make a positive contribution to community life.
