Income Management continues to roll out
Income management will commence tomorrow, 7 January 2008 in the Alice Springs Town Camps, Ingerreke and Amoonguna.
The Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin today announced the further rollout of income management in these communities.
Ms Macklin said that where income management had been introduced in other communities it was largely well received.
“People understand why it is important to have half of their income support payments protected so that money is used on essential items such as food, rent, medicines and utilities,” Ms Macklin said.
“I have been advised that Centrelink officers have been located in the communities and town camps and have conducted individual interviews with community members to help them understand what income management means and where their money is going.
“Income management is extremely important in helping families manage their government payments to cover essential items and importantly, also provide for the wellbeing of their children,” Ms Macklin said.
