Review of the Northern Land Council
A review of the Northern Land Council will be undertaken following recent events which warrant investigation.
Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin, and the Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner, today announced the review of the governance and financial management of the Northern Land Council.
The review will take place under the auspices of the Office of Evaluation and Audit in the Department of Finance and Deregulation.
Recent events at the Council highlighted potential issues around financial management and relationships between the Council’s senior management and the elected Executive.
The aim of the review will be to provide the Government with a better understanding of any issues which stand in the way of good governance at the Council and effective representation of the interests of traditional owners.
The review will report to Minister Tanner. An interim report will be provided early in the process. The final report is expected to be finalised in several months.
