Kenbi Land Claim
The Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin, today welcomed the agreement by the Northern Territory (NT) Government, the Northern Land Council (NLC) and traditional owners which will contribute to the resolution of the Kenbi Land Claim.
The Kenbi Land Claim has been running for 30 years and covers the Cox Peninsula.
This important first step recognises the needs of all groups, including the traditional owners, commercial and recreational fishermen and allows for future development and expansion of Darwin on the Cox Peninsula.
I commend the NT Government and the NLC for reaching a negotiated agreement.
The Australian Government will now move to finalise outstanding issues in relation to the claim, including the status of Australian Government facilities.
