Australia has collected four gold, three silver and two bronze medals on day seven of the London Paralympic Games to lift our tally to an impressive 61 medals.

Our cyclists made an impact on day one of the road racing winning five medals.

David Nicholas and Carol Cooke led the charge to claim two gold medals for Australia in their individual time trial events.

Cyclist Nigel Barley secured his first medal of the Games, winning silver in the men’s individual H 3 time trial behind Poland’s Rafal Wilk. And gold medallists Susan Powell and Michael Gallagher both backed up their winning performances in the Velodrome to pick up medals in the road racing. Susan claimed silver in the women’s individual C4 time trial and Michael Gallagher added bronze to his medal haul in the men’s individual C5 time trial.

Australia notched up another gold medal in athletics with a powerhouse performance from Richard Colman in the men’s 800m T53. Kelly Cartwright scored silver in the women’s 100m T42 to add to her gold in the long jump.

Making history in the pool, Matt Cowdrey won gold in the men’s 50m freestyle S9 final to become Australia’s greatest Paralympian. He has now amassed an impressive 11 gold medals and a total of 20 medals, surpassing veteran track sprinter Tim Sullivan’s record of 10 gold medals.

Adding to the Aussie medal tally in the Aquatics Centre, Ellie Cole claimed bronze in the women’s 50m freestyle S9 finishing only .07 behind the silver medallist.

Our wheelchair rugby team kicked off their medal bid, defeating Canada 64 – 52 in their opening pool game.

Our women’s wheelchair basketball team, the Gilders, beat the Dutch to progress to the semi finals.

Australia’s men’s team, the Rollers, will face Poland in the quarter final tomorrow.
