Australia has collected three gold, two silver and three bronze medals on day eight of the London Paralympic Games to increase our haul to 69 medals.

In the pool, Australian picked up four medals with superstars Matt Cowdrey and Jacqui Freney both collecting gold.

Matt backed up his win from yesterday to collect his record 12th gold medal in the men’s 200m individual medley SM9 while Jacqui also made history winning her 7th gold medal of the London Games to claim the title of Australia’s most successful athlete at a single Paralympics.

Andrew Pasterfield scooped bronze in the men’s 100m freestyle S10 and Maddi Elliott won bronze in the women’s 100m freestyle.

Our Aussie swim team are performing remarkably in the pool and they have already surpassed the swimming medal tally from the Beijing Games.

Australia collected its first sailing gold since Sydney 2000 with the pair Daniel Fitzgibbon and Liesl Tesch winning the two-person keelboat SKUD18 competition.

In athletics, Angela Ballard raced home to claim silver in the women’s 200m 753 and Louise Ellery picked up silver in the women’s shot put F32/33.

Our wheelchair rugby team, the Steelers, continued their unbeaten run comprehensively defeating world number four team Sweden 60 – 47.

The Aussie Rollers outclassed the USA 72 – 63 to progress to the gold medal game in the men’s wheelchair basketball.
