Abbott can’t hide his secret Schoolkids Bonus cut
Tony Abbott will axe the Schoolkids Bonus. He will hurt 1.3 million Australian families. He just won’t tell you about it.
Tonight, Tony Abbott was supposed to come clean about his plans for Australian families.
There were a lot of slogans and platitudes, but not once did he mention his promise to scrap the Schoolkids Bonus, which would rip money out of the pockets of 1.3 million families who rely on this support to get their kids through school.
The Schoolkids Bonus helps parents buy uniforms, shoes, school books and stationery, as well as cover other costs like school excursions, music lessons and sports registration fees.
Each year eligible families will receive up to $410 for each child in primary school and up to $820 a year for each high school student.
A typical family with two kids in school will be $15,000 worse off over the course of their children’s schooling if Mr Abbott is elected Prime Minister and axes the Schoolkids Bonus.
Someone who thinks ripping $15,000 from a low income family clearly doesn’t get it when it comes to modern families.
He doesn’t like to tell you about it, but the truth is Tony Abbott will cut to the bone and leave Australian families behind.
