New website a ‘one stop shop’ for the disability sector

A new website launched today by the Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Carers, Senator Jan McLucas will be a ‘one stop shop’ for information from the disability sector.

Speaking at the National Disability Organisations’ Workshop in Melbourne, Senator McLucas said the National Disability Organisations’ Clearinghouse: connecting, building, sharing website will bring together 13 national disability organisations funded by the Australian Government.

“Having a central point of information makes a lot of sense and will ultimately deliver better outcomes for people with disability and their families,” Senator McLucas said.

“The website encourages collaboration and sharing of information between our national disability organisations as well as providing a single access point for people with disability and the broader community.

Senator McLucas said the National Disability Organisations’ Workshop was an opportunity for Australia’s leading disability organisations to come together to share ideas and discuss issues around disability.

“Australia’s national disability organisations play a pivotal role in representing the views and ambitions of people with disability to the Australian Government,” Senator McLucas said.

“Their membership base ensures we continue to have a direct source of information on the needs and concerns of people with disability.

“Information that is essential to ensuring our policies and programs meet the needs of people with disability and their families.”

Senator McLucas said website is another initiative demonstrating the Gillard Government’s commitment towards people with disability, their families and carers.

“That’s why we providing $1 billion to deliver the first stage of a National Disability Insurance Scheme.

“We will be launching an NDIS in five states and territories across Australia – in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.

From the middle of next year, thousands of Australians with disability, their families and carers will start to benefit from the first stage of an NDIS.

The NDIS will deliver Australians with a disability the care and support they need, when they need it.

“The Gillard Government knows Australians with a disability have waited long enough. We’re making an NDIS real.”
